NameCondon (John and Mary Branch)DescriptionBrothers, John and Daniel Condon arrived in Australia aboard ‘Fitzjames’ in 1859. They were sponsored by their uncle James Condon, a convict transported in 1822. John’s wife, Mary Condon (nee McMahon) arrived the following year.

John Condon’s sister Ellen Condon had settled in the Illawarra four years earlier in 1856 aboard ‘Bermondsey’ with her uncle Thomas (and his wife Mary), and her cousins, James 26, Michael 17, and Hanora 24.

John and Mary Condon settled at Stoney Creek, Croom, and farmed there for many years. The had a family of five children -

Francis Patrick b.1861 (married Margaret Agnes Buckley, died 1929, Albion Park)
John Terrence b.1862 (died 1930, Auckland, NZ)
Maria Mary b.1863 (died 1946, Shellharbour)
James Denis b.1867 (married Margaret Ann Henry, died 1959, Shellharbour)
Daniel Edward b.1872 (died 1955, Shellharbour)

In 1883, John, Mary and family moved to Dunmore, farming that part of the Bassett-Darley Estate known as Clear Hills (part of Killalea State Park today).

Son, Francis Patrick Condon married Margaret Agnes Buckley in 1890, and they rented the property known as 'Minnamurra' farm at Dunmore, later owned by Archie Fuller (who renamed the farm 'Killarney').

Francis and Margaret then moved to a neighbouring property, 'Fairview'. They had nine children –

Mary Lillian b.1895 (Sister Julietta RSJ, died 1967, Sydney)

Eileen Margaret b.1898 (died Sister Martha RSJ 1986)
Evelyn Frances b. 1902 (married Walter Downes, died 1950, Shellharbour)
John Joseph b.1904 (married Dorothy Horniman, died 1981, Dapto)
Francis Patrick b.1906 (married Marjorie King, died 1995, Shellharbour)

Son, James Denis Condon married Margaret Ann Henry in 1897.

Maria and Daniel did not marry. They later lived with their parents in Mary Street, Shellharbour.
