James arrived on board the 'Mangles' 8 November 1822 and was assigned to Mr. Hudson of Airds for a time.
James was transported aboard the same ship as another local convict, Murtagh Farragher.
James resided at several places in NSW over the years including Sydney, Berkeley, Bulli, Charcoal Creek (Unanderra), Peterborough (Shellharbour) and Stoney Creek (Croom).
In 1828, he obtained his Ticket of Leave and was working as a servant to Daniel McGuire in Prince Street, Sydney. In 1829 he received his Certificate of Freedom.
In 1833, at St Mary’s Church, Sydney, he married Mary Murphy, daughter of Jeremiah and Margaret (nee Quinn)
James and Mary had several children;

Mary b.1836 (married Peter Ryan, died 1894, Dapto)
Thomas b.1838 (married Margaret McCarthy, died 1918, Jamberoo)
Elizabeth b.1839 (married John Seymour, died 1919, Albury)
James b.1841 (married Elizabeth Clancy, died 1910, Albion Park)
John Joseph b.1843 (married Catherin McCarthy, died 1904, Stoney Creek)
Daniel b1845 (married Hannah Phipps, died 1895, Kangaroo Valley)
Patrick b.1847 (married Margaret Clancy, died 1922, Wollongong)
Margaret b.1849 (married Charles Price, died 1917, Wollongong)
Michael b.1851 (married Martha Daley died 1918, Granville)
Joseph b.1853 (married Elizabeth Bradney, died 1926, Smithfield)
The 1841 Census, states that James was working for WW Jenkins Esquire in the Berkeley District, where another well-known local convict, Samuel Clarke was employed.
James Condon died at Shellharbour 26 August 1881 and is buried at the Jamberoo Roman Catholic Cemetery.
James Condon Jnr. resided at Stoney Creek, Albion Park and Shellharbour over the years, marrying Elizabeth Clancy in 1865. James and Elizabeth had five children all born in the Shellharbour area.
James Jnr worked as a publican and held several licences for hotels at Albion Park, Kiama, Shellharbour and Jamberoo. He leased the Albion Park Hotel (which still stands today) until the 1880s, and in 1885 built the Commercial Hotel on the north-west corner of Tongarra Road.
The Commercial Hotel was sold about ten years later to the Raftery family and was destroyed by fire in the 1950s.
