NameCroom PicnicAlternative NameCroome PicnicEvent LocationCroom SchoolDescriptionThe Croom Picnic was held on Arbor Day each year in the grounds of Croom Public School. Mr W Turnbull was the teacher who initiated the first community picnic 29 August 1890.
At the first picnic, the children marched into the school and were seated. About 40-50 parents and friends were also in attendance. The group was addressed by Thomas Armstrong Esq, JP of Albion Park. Tea and cakes were served, followed by tree planting.
Mrs McGill, on whose property the school was situated planted the first tree. Other trees were planted by Mrs Condon, Wright, Bonser, Mathie, Miller, Gray, Kelly, Turnbull, Prior, and Miss Wright and Fowler.
Gentleman also planted trees on the day including Rev Mr Miller, W Mathie, Thomas Armstrong, parents of the students, Mr Gordon, Gray, Wright and Bonser, and the teacher Mr Turnbull.
Most of the students also planted a tree on the day, which were enclosed in wire netting.
