The family were from Tipperary and settled in Jamberoo. About 1905, William purchased land in the Richmond River area and established a dairy farm.
In 1917, Timothy Ryan married Mary Creagan, daughter of Martin and Johanna Creagan of 'Anglesboro', Dunmore. The couple lived at Albion Park before moving to Tintenbar, where his parents resided. They had five children;

The family returned to Shellharbour in 1941, where Timothy was engaged in assisting farmers, during the war time labour shortage. The family lived at the Old Minnamurra School House in Swamp Road.
Just 12 months later, their son Timothy Francis Creagan killed while testing of the Owen gun at Lysaght’s Port Kembla in June 1942.
Timothy was a target spotter and was killed during a re-load while marking the target.
Aged only 17 years Timothy was the first victim of the Owen Gun.
Timothy Snr died four years later in 1946,and Mary in 1956. They were buried at Shellharbour Cemetery.
