NameMcEncroeDescriptionWilliam McEncroe was born about 1804 in County Tipperary, Ireland.
William's wife, Johanna was the daughter of Denis and Nora McGrath.
It is unclear when the McEncroe’s came to Australia.
William and Johanna had one known son, born at Jamberoo in 1855, John Joseph.
William McEncroe died in 1869 at Dunmore, and Johanna in 1900. They were buried at Jamberoo Catholic Cemetery.
In 1887, their son John married Rose Roarty, daughter of Edward Roarty and Mary Dillon. They lived on a farm ‘Rocklow’, at the end of Rocklow Road, Dunmore. John and Rose had four children;
William Austin (Barlow) b.1888, (died 1968, Dunmore)
Mary Mildred (Millie) b.1889 (married Joseph McDonall, died 1979, Kiama)
Catherine Muriel b.1891 (married Edward Dwyer, died 1982, Kiama).
Edward Leslie b.1894 (married Mona Letitia Sealey, died 1951, Marrickville)
Rose was widowed early in her life when her husband John was accidentally killed after being thrown from his horse at Minnamurra in 1894. She was left to look after four children under six.
Rose remained at Dunmore until her death when she was 90 years old. Her son William, or Barlow as he was known, and her daughter Mary known as Millie, lived in the old home ‘Rocklow’ until the late 1960s.
