In 1873, James married Mary Crowley, daughter of Timothy Crowley and Ann McDermott. Mary was born at Terry's Meadows (Albion Park) in 1857.
James and Mary farmed at Albion Park and Yallah. They had 15 children, nine girls and six boys; James (died as a baby), Bridget (Beach), James, (died as a baby), Annie (O'Malley/O'Mealy), Martin, Mary (McAuliffe), Michael, Amy (Timbs), Catherine, Albert, Charles, Thomas, John, Cecilia (Gwynne) and Sylvester.
In 1892, James died the result of an accident, after being thrown from a cart on the road from Albion Park to Yallah.
James' sister Mary Jordan, arrived in Australia three years earlier than her family, in 1855. In 1862 at Kiama, she married Frances William Downes and they lived and farmed at Albion Park.
James' brother Martin Jordan had arrived in Australia in 1857, a year earlier than his family. He was about 20 years old. He married Mary Conheady at Dapto in 1868 and they lived at Macquarie River (Albion Park).
James' sister Bridget married John Daley in 1861 at Shellharbour.
