In 1840, aged 26 years, he arrived in Australia aboard the ‘Lord Western’. Timothy could read and write, and worked as a blacksmith.
Two years later in 1842, Timothy married Anne McDermott, who had arrived in Australia aged 21 in 1841, aboard ‘Runnymede’.
The Crowley’s eventually settled at Macquarie River (Albion Park). They had seven known children –
Michael b.1842 (married Annie O’Neill, died 1900, Ryde)
John b.1844 (died 1858, Kiama)
Elizabeth b.1846 (married Mathew Calvert and Feugle Hegherty, died 1926, Wollongong)
Timothy b.1850 (married Mary Crimmins, died 1919, Wollongong)
Catherine b.1851 (married William Steadman, died 1940, Auburn)
Mary b.1857 (married James Jordan, died 1938, Wollongong)
Ann Crowley b.1860 (married John Raftery, died 1934, Redfern)
Timothy’s blacksmith premises were at the junction of Tongarra and Calderwood Roads. He gave part of the land for the building of the Catholic Church and cemetery at Albion Park.
Anne Crowley died in 1877 and was buried at the Albion Park Catholic Cemetery. Timothy Snr died in 1890.
Timothy and Anne’s daughter Mary, married James Jordan (son of James Jordan and Bridget Manning). James, aged 22 arrived in Australia in 1858 aboard ‘Forest Monarch’ with his widowed mother Bridget, and sister, Bridget. They settled at Albion Park.
Mary and James Jordan had 15 children, and their descendants include members of the Beach, McAuliffe, and Timbs families.
Timothy and Anne’s daughter Ann, married John Raftery (son of John Raftery and Bridget Cleary). John was born at Johnston’s Meadows in 1851.
