AddressTongarra Road, Albion ParkDescriptionIn 1952 the Albion Park Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade was formed. Jim Wilson was a Captain and Derm Murray a Chief Spotter. The first vehicle was a 1942 Blitz Wagon followed by a 1967 Bedford and 1969 a Land Rover.

The brigades had many call outs around Albion Park during the bad drought years, and in 1954 the blitz, not fully operational, could not cope with the fire that destroyed Raftery’s Commercial Hotel at Albion Park. The site is now L.R.Mood Park.

The Fire Station is currently situated in Tongarra Road adjacent to the Court House and on 28 September 1991 the new extension was opened by R.J. Harrison MP for Kiama and Cec Glenholmes Mayor of Shellharbour Municipality.

On 1st September 1996, the Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade name was changed to the Rural Fire Service. Modern equipment has replaced the early Blitz wagon days, and the Rural Fire Service Regional Control Centre is now situated at Airport Road, Illawarra Regional Airport, Albion Park Rail. The Centre’s facility will operate as the local Emergency Centre for Shellharbour and Kiama.
