AddressCalderwood Road, CalderwoodDescriptionThe Calderwood Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade was formed in the 1940's by a group of dairy farmers and property owners.

The first fire station was an igloo hut built at Calderwood Road, Albion Park, the property of Ian Thomas and their first captain was Cameron Craig.

In the late 1960's the brigade received their first fire truck, a Land Rover called Calderwood 1. The brigade also changed their name in the 1960's to the Calderwood, Marshall Mount Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.

The brigade received a second truck in 1971 - a duel can six-seater International. The truck had a capacity of 500 gallons and this truck became 'Calderwood 1' The Land Rover became 'Calderwood 2'.

A new station was built in 1981, and the land was leased for 40 years from John Dawes for $10 per year. The station was funded by Wollongong and Shellharbour Councils and was opened by W.E.Knott MLA 23 March 1981.

Today the service is known as Calderwood Rural Fire Brigade.

In 2004, the brigade had had eight captains since 1940 - Cameron Craig, Ces Thomas, Ian Thomas, Kevin Bowley, John Dawes Jnr, Peter Smith, Kevin Blissett Jnr and Peter Johnston.
