NameBushfire Tongarra 1909DescriptionThe disastrous bush fire of December 1909 occurred in the Albion Park district, originating at Tongarra where Mr. Hector Fraser lost his ‘Tongarra House’, his cattle and outbuildings.
The fire spread rapidly due to a strong westerly to Yellow Rock, Tullimbar, Mt. Terry, Coobee, Stockyard, Stoney Creek, Calderwood, Marshall Mount, and although the fire fighters, aldermen and business men rushed to help, the homes and farms suffered heavy losses. Dairy cattle, pigs, poultry etc. perished in the fire.
