NameDennissDescriptionRichard Denniss was born in 1810, Kent, England to Adam and Margaret Denniss (nee Bourne)
In 1831, Richard married Sarah Gillett, daughter of Thomas and Susannah (nee Mackett).
Richard and Sarah arrived in Australia in 1838 with their youngest children aboard 'The Westminster', the same ship that brought to Thomas family to the Marshall Mount area. Also aboard the ship was Richard’s brother William Denniss, his wife, and family.
According to Bert Weston of Albion Park, Richard and Sarah sailed to Wollongong in the small sailing ship 'William the Fourth', and rode in a dray to Marshall Mount, where they took up farming at ‘Gate Farm’.

Son, William ‘Adam’ Denniss married Sarah Parkinson and they farmed on part of the Weston estate. Their slab cottage was named ‘Goldena Cottage’.
Daughter Sarah Denniss married Lionel Hurry and they lived at ‘Vine Cottage’ Albion Park.
In 1978, Bert Weston of Albion Park wrote his recollections of ‘The Denniss Family of Marshall Mount’. His memories are recorded in the document below.
The book 'Nineteenth Century Dapto' by WG McDonald (document below), gives the history of the Denniss family and a description of Adam Denniss' home.
