The Barrs' lived at Albion Park and had four daughters;
Ann Elizabeth was bn. 1842 at Alexandria N.S.W died 1919 Shellharbour)
Maria b.1844 (died 1845 Sydney)
Mary Ann was bn. 1847 at Alexandria N.S.W (died 1925 Shellharbour)
Sarah bn. 1850 at Alexandria N.S.W (married John Fryer, died 1885 Camden)
The girls were christened at Alexandria 27 December 1853.
Frederick is listed in the Australian Historical Electoral Rolls for 1855-1856, where he held a leasehold on the Peterborough Estate. In 1859, Frederick signed a petition for the formation of Shellharbour Municipality,
A newspaper article in 1869, states Frederick was nominated for the position of auditor for the Cooperative Steam Navigation Company, along with Walter Allen.
Albion Park Hotel was the site for the inquest into the death of George Clarke, a post boy working for Walter Allen, who accidentally drowned in floodwaters. Frederick Barrs was appointed as foreman of the jury.
A newspaper report in the Kiama Examiner 23 September 1862 stated that the dwelling house of Mr Fredrick Barrs of Terry's Meadows was totally destroyed by fire. Nothing but two small boxes and some beddings were saved.
Just seven years later, Frederick’s wife, Jane Barrs died aged 54 years.
Frederick Barrs was secretary for the Shellharbour Butter Export Company in the 1870's and endeavoured to export butter to London.
The Australian Police Gazette for 1863 records 70lbs of butter stolen from Frederick Barrs Farm.
In 1884, Frederick's body was found in a water hole at Albion Park. It is believed he was accidentally drowned while suffering from the effects of liquor.
Daughter Sarah married John Fryer, son of William Fryer and Sophia Dunster, and they moved to Camden.
Anne Elizabeth and Mary Anne Barrs never married. They both died aged 77 years, Anne in 1919, and Mary Anne in 1925.
Mary Anne Barrs was closely connected to the Allen family at Shellharbour. She may have worked for the Allen’s at their store, or as housekeeper, or just have been a close friend.
Mary Anne’s death notice in the Kiama Independent and Shoalhaven Advertiser 1 August 1925 stated she had been a member of the Allen family for about 60 years. She died at the residence of JD Allen. Mary Anne made Edward and Joseph Dunster Allen executors for her estate.
