It was built by contractor Charles Bursill in 1888.

The factory began operations in 1889 and the building was constructed of studs and weatherboards and measured 60ft x 20ft. There was a 9ft verandah on all sides.

in 1892 there were 30 suppliers to the factory from the surrounding Dunmore farms, who delivered around 1400 gallons of milk per day.
