In 1847, aged 23, Thomas was convicted of sheep stealing at the Warwickshire Assizes and sentenced to seven years transportation.

Thomas left for Australia aboard ‘Hashemy’, in December 1848. Four year later he married Nancy Whittaker (daughter of John and Eleanor), at Wollongong.

Thomas and Nancy had several children –

Thomas John b.1876 Berrima (married Mary Minchinton, died 1951, QLD)

Nancy Cook died in 1920 at Lismore, and Thomas Cook Snr died in 1951, QLD.

Daughter, Ellen Cook married William Fowler (son of convict Henry Fowler and Ann Gaggin)

Son, Henry Cook married Esther Hamilton (daughter of John and Esther Fleming), of Croom.
