In 1815, at Woodchurch, James married Susannah Fullager, daughter of John/Charles and Elizabeth (nee Bourne).
James and Susannah arrived in Australia aboard ‘Cornwall’ in 1839, with their children;
Elizabeth b.1815 (arrived with her husband Edward Bannnister Dawes, and their son Edward age 1, (Elizabeth died 1903, Marshall Mount)
John b.1817 (married Mary Barnes, died 1892, Singleton)
James b.1820 (married Mary Elizabeth Montgomery Perrott, died 1885, Jamberoo)
Crittenden b.1821 (died 1840, Sydney)
Adolphus b.1823 (married Mary Ann Farley, died 1892, Ryde)
Sabina b.1825 (married William Alexander Hines, died 1894, Sydney)
Norman b.1828 (died 1828, Woodchurch)
Cassandra b.1829 (died 1913, Albion Park)
Adelaide b.1832 (married Thomas Wright, died 1890, Robertson)
The Hukins’ settled on the Peterborough Estate (Shellharbour) before moving to Jamberoo.
Sons of James and Susannah, John and Adolphus Hukins were publicans in Jamberoo. John of ‘Man of Kent’, and Adolphus of ‘Four in Hand’.
In his 'Reminiscences of Illawarrra' (22 Feb 1935) Frank Wilkinson recalled Mr. Hawkins (sic, host of the Jamberoo Inn, wearing a smock frock. 'A typical Englishman, big and hearty, he reminded me of Squire Trigg, down in Hertfordshire, from whose field I frequently stole a turnip'.
Wilkinson recalled again in his 'Reminiscences of Illawarra' (14 June 1935) 'I saw Mr Hukins, then landlord of 'Man of Kent' wearing the old time smock frock so common in England. It was the only specimen of the old time garment that I ever Saw worn in Australia'.
Daughter Elizabeth and husband Edward Dawes, settled at Marshall Mount/Albion Park.
Susannah Hukins died in 1862, and James in 1871. They were both buried at Jamberoo Anglican Cemetery.
