NameOld Peterborough HomesteadAlternative NamePeterborough HomesteadTypeBuildingDescriptionFrom the 1830's the Wentworth Estate was managed by one of estate owner Darcy Wentworth's sons-in-law, John E Reddall.
John married Darcy's daughter Martha Wentworth.
The Reddall's lived at 'Peterborough Homestead' which was situated somewhere near today's crossroads of Shellharbour and Lake Entrance roads.
It is believed the homestead was built by an 'English (Emigrant) Mechanic', (Alexander Harris) who was engaged by Reddall. The timber largely came from the 'Blackbutt Range'. Harris describes the building process in three articles published in the Kiama Independent 'Illawarra Chapter V' in 1875 (links below).
Some time after the late 1840's descendants of the Reddall family moved to 'Lake House' west of Native Dog Hill (Mount Warrigal), the former home of Captain Stephen Addison (John Reddall's borther-in-law).
'Lake House' eventually became known as Peterborough Homestead. The Reddall's first home, over time, became known as the 'Old Peterborough Homestead'.
On old maps it is marked 'The Original Peterborough Homestead'.
