Andrew married Jane Keys (daughter of Thomas and Mary Keys) in Northern Ireland c.1836. Andrew and Jane arrived in Australia aboard the 'Kate' in 1852, with their children Thomas, David, Jane, Mary and William. The Coughran's were on the same ship as the Lindsay and Alcorn families who also settled at Shellharbour. Andrew had a brother William who was living at Wollongong, and Jane had a sister Sarah living in the colony.
Andrew and Jane's eldest daughter Eliza Jane (Coughlan) is listed separately on the same shipping records. Her entry lists a cousin, John Keys, living at Wollongong. In 1857 at Shellharbour, Eliza Jane married William Lindsay. They had two children Thomas b.1858 and John b.1860. Sadly William died the same year John was born and was buried at the Shellharbour Sand Cemetery. In 1862, Eliza married Robert Bryen at Wollongong.
Andrew and Jane settled on the Peterborough Estate (Shellharbour) soon after their arrival. They had another daughter Sarah in 1853.
Sadly Andrew died of dropsy in 1860, aged 55 years. He was buried at the Old Sand Cemetery at Shellharbour. Jane died in 1907 aged 97 years, and was buried at the Albion Park Anglican Cemetery.
Son, Thomas Coughran married Catherine Donnelly at Shellharbour in 1864. Thoams Coughran operated hotels in the Shellharbour area. He died at Lismore in 1907.
David died from typhoid in at Shellharbour in 1876, aged just 35 years and was buried at the Old Sand Cemetery, Shellharbour.
Mary married John Tate in 1864 and they lived at Jamerboo.
William married Jane Armstrong, daughter of Thomas Armstrong of 'Oak Farm', North Macquarie (Calderwood).
