In 1835, Christopher married Ellenor Godkin 1835 (daughter of Thomas and Frances), at Wexford, Ireland.

The couple arrived in Australia in 1840 aboard ‘Formosa’ with their two eldest children, Fanny and Joseph. Ellenor’s shipping records state she was a dressmaker.

The Atkinson’s were part of a group of 23 families who came to Shellharbour with Caroline Chisholm in 1843 as part of an immigration scheme. Christopher and Ellenor had more children at Shellharbour; seven children in total -

Christopher died at Kangaloon 1878, and Ellenor at Wallendbeen in 1896.

Daughter Fanny, stayed in Shellharbour. She married Thomas Ball in 1859 and had two daughters,

Ellen b.1863 (married Charles Domnick, died 1939, Dapto)

Thomas Ball died in 1863 and was buried at Shellharbour. Fanny married Duncan Gow in 1865, and they had several children;

Fanny died in 1904 and was buried at Shellharbour Cemetery.

Christopher and Ellenor’s son, Christopher Jnr, also stayed in Shellharbour. He married Annie Land and they had;
