William’s mother, Mary, was possibly the sister of Henry Osborne of Marshall Mount. She probably died soon after he was born in Ireland.

His father Joseph remarried Elizabeth Warnock in Ireland, and it is believed they had five daughters (half-sisters to William) -

Letitia b.1836 (married Andrew Carson Alcorn, died 1879, Berrima)
Elizabeth Jane b.1838 (married Christopher Funston, died 1927 Berrima)
Mary Ann b.1843 (married James Dorrough, died 1914, Lismore)
Margaret b.1846 (died 1946)
Ellen b.1848 (married Robert Alcorn, died 1931, Ballina)

We have no shipping records for William Alcorn, and there are several different reports as to when he arrived in the colony.

In William's obituary it states he arrived in 1855 at 25 years old. Other sources say he was 10 years old (c.1840) and came to Australia with his uncle Henry Osborne.

William’s sisters Elizabeth Jane and Mary Ann arrived as single females aboard ‘Chance’ on 13th of July 1860.Records show that Elizabeth was a "sub - matron during the voyage.

William’s father Joseph aged 59, and sisters Letitia aged 23, and Ellen aged 19, arrived as ‘widowed families’ in 1865 aboard ‘Trebolgen’.

William Alcorn married Margaret Dorrough 13 May 1857. Margaret was the daughter of Matthew and Martha Dorrough. One of Margaret’s brother’s, James, married William’s sister, Mary Ann.

William and Margaret farmed at Shellharbour and Foxground for about 15 years before moving to ‘Hawthorn Park’ at Bowral in 1871, where they lived for the rest of their lives.

William and Margaret had no children.
