Part of a scythe found Wentworth Cottage Park, Stoney Range. Provenance and SignifcanceJohn E Reddall built Wentworth Cottage in 1896 and named the cottage after his Great Grandfather: original Shellharbour landowner, D’Arcy Wentworth. The beautiful brick homestead was trimmed with iron and lace.
In 1914, John Carmody purchased the property and worked it as a dairy farm. His son Ray, born at the cottage in 1915, continued on the farm and contributed greatly to the local community. The Carmody’s owned the farm until NSW Housing Commission resumed it in the 1970’s, and the cottage was subsequently demolished.
Today, Wentworth Cottage Park marks the site of the original property. A hedge maze represents the original floorplan of the beautiful home, which had splendid views towards Lake Illawarra.DonorShellharbour City Council
