This dress is made of ivory coloured silk fabric. It is high waisted design with pintucked embellishment and lace edging. This dress has been constructed by hand. It has a plain circular collar with straight short sleeves with lace decoration at the base of the sleeves. At the base of the dress there is a pintucked design followed by a lace insert, more pintucked decoration and a lace fringe. There are three press studs on the back of the dress. Provenance and SignifcanceThis silk dress handmade by Mary Thomas (nee James) for one of her children.
Mary and Henry married in 1896 and had ten children,
Ralph, Marie, Kenneth, Cecil, Gwendoline, Donald, Olga, Noel and Victor,
Mary and Henry Thomas lived and farmed at 'Clover Hill', Macquarie Pass. Their property was later purchased by Benjamin Horace Turner.
