James (Jim) Puttnam Cullen was the son of Charles Clinton Cullen and Alice Cullen (nee Puttnam/Bush).

Jim was the grandson of Henrietta Bush (nee Lewis) who built the Ocean Beach Hotel at Shellharbour in 1929. He was also the grandson of Christopher James Cullen, Mayor of Central Illawarra.
