NameRobbDescriptionGeorge Robb was born in married Fanny McKeon in Victoria in 1857. The couple moved to the Illawarra by 1858, and settled at Jamberoo.
George and Fanny had seven children;
Arthur b.1858, (married Emma Vidler 1883, died 1929, Wollongong)
George b.1860 (married Mary Elvin Harrigan, died Tyagarah)
Fanny b.1861 (married Herbert J Maund, died 1931, Cundletown)
Lydia (Lady) Jane b.1863 (married Joseph Henry Price, died 1948, Brisbane)
William b.1864 (married Giesta Sophia Muscio, died 1928, Dumaresq)
John b.1866 (married Alice Maud Wingate Howell, died Auburn)
Alexander b.1868 (died 1943 the result of a house fire, Jamberoo)
The eldest of George and Fanny’s children was only 10 years old when their father died, the result of drowning in floodwaters at Appin in 1869.
Fanny continued living at the family farm ‘Hill of Peace’ at Jamberoo, with their children. The 1891 and 1901 Census show her living at the farm. In a Government Gazette dated 2 October 1896, Fanny is living in the parish of Kiama adjoining the property of Alick Osborne (brother of Henry Osborne).
Son, Arthur Robb married Emma Vidler and they farmed at Yellow Rock. Arthur was one of the original shareholders of the Illawarra Co-operative Central Dairy.
Arthur and Emma had five children:
Albert Arthur bn.1924 Kiama, married Vina Isabella Smith in 1922 died at Port Kembla 1977.
Lydia Jane b.1855 Kiama, died 1886.
George Caleb b.1889 Kiama. died 1974.
William Leslie b 1891 Kiama died 1960.
Lavinia Myrtle b 1895 died 1921.
Tragically, in 1921, Emma Robb and her daughter Lavinia were killed at Yellow Rock Creek, when they were thrown out of the sulky they were riding in, presumably after their horse bolted.
Albert Arthur, the only child of Arthur and Emma to marry, married Vina Smith in 1922 at Albion Park, and they had three children:
Albert Errol b.1924 (married Mary Mildred Downes, died 1977, Port Kembla)
Neville James b.1926 (married Joan Mary Humby, died 2014, Shellharbour)
Norman Trevor b. 1934 (married Olive May Wooldridge, died 2017)
Albert Errol Robb continued running the family farm at Yellow Rock.
George and Fanny’s son, Alexander Robb was tragically burn to death in 1943, the result of a house fire in the Robb family home, ‘Hill of Peace’ at Jamberoo. He lived in the same house he was born in the whole of his 73 years, as he promised his mother he would do so.
