James arrived in Sydney on the 19th of September 1882 on the Orontes He lived in Parramatta and then Shellharbour. He married Catherine Boylan at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Shellharbour in 1894. Catherine or Kate as she was known was bn.1861 in County Meath Ireland and had arrived in Australia on the ship Energia on the 4th of June 1886.

Christopher bn. 1891 Shellharbour died 1980 Shellharbour unmarried.
Thomas bn.1892 Shellharbour died 1981 Sydney. Married Elsie May Walker.
Sylvester bn. 1893 Shellharbour died 1949 Melbourne Married Irene Wadeson. Sylvester had travelled to Melbourne for health reasons hoping to recover but unfortunately died he was buried in the Shellharbour Cemetery.
Gregory bn. 1895 Shellharbour died 1979 Warwick unmarried.
Mary Ellen bn. 1898 died 1975 Mudgee married
Frank Fitzpatrick.
Catherine bn. 1900 Shellharbour died 1980 Sydney married John Etherington.
Sarah bn. 1894 Shellharbour died 1895 Shellharbour.
James was a blacksmith and in the early days had the only blacksmiths shop in Shellharbour he also worked at Fuller's Quarry Long Point (Bass Point). When he retired, he had been working at Meader's Quarry Minnamurra.
In the petition to the government by the citizens of Shellharbour 1894 requesting the municipality to be divided into wards, James had added his name, and also in a further petition in 1899.
In the 1901 Census James and family were living at 94 Addison Street Shellharbour.
James and Catherine's sons, Thomas and Sylvester were also blacksmiths, and in the 1920's owned the only rubber wheeled sulky in the village. Thomas and Sylvester later worked in the quarries.
With their brother Christopher, Thomas and Sylvester were in the Shellharbour Rifle Club.
Christopher and another brother Gregory both served in WWI. Christopher received a Military Medal, and Colonel Colin Fuller later presented him with a gold watch and chain because of his service.
Christopher was a keen collector of shells and donated his collection to Shellharbour Council.
