About 1893, Edward purchased a farm at Yellow Rock from Benjamin Clarke. The homestead, 'Wairanga', was completed in 1895. The home was built on rubble foundations, and the corners were made of sandstone cut and transported by horse-drawn drays from Stockyard Mountain.
‘Wairanga' was later farmed by son Eric Couch, and grandson (Eric) Logan Couch.
Edward served as Alderman on Shellharbour Council.
