NameFuller, Colin DunmorePlace of Residence'Dunmore House', DunmoreBiographyColin Dunmore Fuller was born at Dunmore House in 1882, to George Laurence and Sarah Fuller (nee Cunningham).

He was second in command of the 6th Light Horse 1st AIF, landing at Gallipoli in 1915. In November, he became commanding officer, leading many Shellharbour boys who joined the same unit. They remained at Anzac until the evacuation in December, with Fuller seeing off all of his men before he left the beach.

Colin Fuller was awarded the Distinguished Service Order in 1917. He led his regiment in Egypt and Palestine until 1918, and in 1920 received the Order of the Nile, conferred by the sultan of Egypt for ‘distinguished services rendered in the course of the campaign’.

After the war he returned to his home at Dunmore, without his much loved troop horse ‘Bobs’, who he was forced to leave in Egypt. He was affectionately called ‘the Colonel’ by the locals and those Shellharbour boys lucky enough to return home with him.

According to one member of his regiment ‘he could shoot better, ride better, swear better and drink better than all of us put together’.
