The cemetery was formerly acquired by the Presbyterian Church in 1878 when the site was sold for 20 Pounds by John Russell to James McGill, Alexander Fraser and William Mathie as Trustees for the Presbyterian Burial Ground. The last burial in the cemetery occurred in 1969.
