Land for the church was donated by Mr John Allen. The architect was Mr E Blackett of Sydney and the builder was Mr Schadel. The church was built from stone quarried locally at Yellow Rock. The first burial at the adjacent cemetery was that of Walter Allen, the Postmaster of Shellharbour who died on May 1st 1876.
