TitleFoundation stone of the Temperance Hall, ShellharbourPhoto Number001687DescriptionLand on this site was donated by Hicks Bros, (bacon curers of Shellharbour), to the Alowrie Division Order of Sons and Daughters of Temperance to build a meeting hall. James Cawdell laid the foundation stone in September 1882. The hall was officially opened by Mr Cawdell on 26th March, 1883. In the 1920s, the former Temperance Hall became the Pictorium, screening silent moving pictures. It was later called the Empire Theatre and featured talking movies until 1960.
