TitleSelina Green 1867-1961Photo Number004035Date1880-1890DescriptionSelina Mary Green was born the 20 August 1867 at Macquarie River, to John and Mary Green. The Green's farmed at Croom, Johnston's Meadows, Macquarie River and Tongarra from the 1840's.
Selina's father, John, worked for William Wilson (a convict transported in 1813), who was employed by David Johnston of Johnston’s Meadows to manage the estate.
Selina was a skilled rider, and rode at Albion Park, Robertson and Kiama agricultural shows. She could ride sidesaddle with ease. She was also a fine dressmaker and for many years was the dressmaker of Albion Park.
She married John Stubbs in 1891. They lived at Tongarra on the Green farm. John worked as a farmer, cattleman and coachman for Sir William and Lady McMillan of River Farm at Tongarra. The McMillan’s grandson Evelyn Owen invented the famous Owen sub machine gun which saved thousands of lives during the Second World War.
Selina and John moved their family to Albion Park about 1902 and eventually built their own home in Terry Street. John died in 1948. Selina died 5 September 1961 aged 94 years.LocationTongarraDonorStubbs, Lew & Family
