He arrived, in Australia in 1857 aboard the 'Vocalist' with his wife Mary (nee Cleary, 32 years old), and son John/James who was born on the voyage.

It appears by the 1890's Bartholomew and Mary were living separately. Bartholomew was found dead in a hut on Thomas James' farm at Dunmore, which he occupied alone. Bartholomew died of 'heart failure accelerated by intemperance' 10 October 1902. Mary died at her daughters home in 1904.
Bartholomew and Mary's daughter Catherine Malone married Walter Seily who operated a coach service and livery in Shellharbour.
Bartholomew's sister Mary had arrived in Australia a few years earlier than his own family, in 1854. She arrived aboard the 'Caroline' with her husband James Fitzgerald, and their children Thomas and Ellen.
Mary and James had several more children at Shellharbour (Dunmore), where they settled.

The Fitzgerald's eventually moved to Lismore, NSW.
Four years after Mary Fitzgerald and family arrived at Shellharbour in 1854, and one year after Bartholomew and family in 1857, Mary paid a deposit for her other brother, Patrick Malone's immigration to Australia.
Patrick Malone was 23 and a labourer. He arrived in September 1858 aboard the 'David Maciver'. In 1869, Patrick married Mary Nugent at Kiama. They couple had seven children, all born at Shellharbour. Patrick and family, also, later moved to Lismore, NSW.
