'Obituary - Ben Turner', The Sydney Morning Heralad, Wednesday 6 June 2001.Provenance and SignifcanceBenjamin Horace Turner, born in England in 1901, was a world record parachutist in England, a manufacturer of parachutes in Australia in the 1940s, and the designer of the 'Scamp' swimsuit.
He was also a pilot and established Southern Cross Air, operating in the South Coast area.
Ben retired in 1949 and moved to 'Clover Hill' with his wife Jean and their English sheep dog, Roger.
In the 1970s, the historic 'Clover Hill' homestead burnt down and the NWPS acquired his property as part of Macquarie Pass National Park. Despite all this, Ben built an English Tudor style Manor House known locally as 'Ben's Folly'. It was built around huge rock formations on the property, the rocks forming part of the interior of the building.
