TitleDiorama of the Stewart Farm Datec.1910DescriptionThis diorama of the Stewart family farmhouse and farm at Terragong was made by William 'John' Belcher, nephew of Catherine Stewart (nee Wright),
The diorama is encased in an old kauri pine butter box.
Provenance and SignifcanceWilliam Stewart, a convict, arrived in the Colony aboard 'Hashemy' in 1849. William married Catherine Wright in 1853. Catherine Wright was the daughter of convict James Wright transported in 1820 aboard 'Speke', and convict Elizabeth 'Eliza' Kenny transported aboard 'Elizabeth' in 1827.
William and Catherine Stewart and family farmed at Terragong. It is believed their farm was in the location of 'Myee Hill', the farm later associated with the McGlinchy family.
The farm was sold after William's death in 1879.
The diorama was in the care of William and Catherine's daughter Mary 'Louisa' Hughes for many years, as the Stewart boys were considered too young to take care if it. Mary Louisa's daughter, Mildred 'Milly' Hughes, passed it on to her uncle, Walter Stewart's family in the 1950's. DonorStewart, Garry
