Maurice died the result of an accident at Wollongong in 1885. He had arrived from Sydney in the steamer 'The Dairymaid' and was returning to the vessel when he slipped and fell over the bank. His head struck one of the iron nails of the tramway and he died at hospital shortly afterwards.
Maurice and Johanna's son, Maurice Gallen Jnr, was born at Shellharbour about 1867. Maurice was a great cricketer, member of the rifle club, and life member of the Shellharbour School of Arts. He worked at Hick's Bacon Factory before taking up work as a maintenance man and ganger for Shellharbour Municipal Council.
