Provenance and SignifcanceWilliam Raftery purchased the Commercial Hotel in Albion Park c.1895-1900. After William's death in 1913, his wife, Mary Ann, ran the hotel, followed in later years by her son, John Augustine Raftery.

John married Mary Bateman from 'Ravensthorpe'. Their five children were all born at the hotel.
