NameThe Butter Track PassAlternative NameOsborne's Butter TrackThe Butter TrackTypeLandscapeGeolocation[1] AddressYellow RockDescriptionIn 1818, Joseph Wild following directions from local Dharawal people, found a previously unknown (to European settlers) way down the Illawarra Escarpment.
This track linked the area at the top of Kangaroo Valley to Albion Park and Jamberoo.
This track was later used as 'The Butter Track'. The Butter Track opened about 1846 and linked Kangaroo Valley via Marshall Mount, to Wollongong.
Marshall Mount was the estate of Henry Osborne, and the track was in those times called Osborne's Butter Track.
The track was used to drive young cattle to Kangaroo Valley and it was used to send butter back from the Valley, in kegs balanced on pack horses. The horses delivered four kegs of butter a week.
The track passed through Osborne's estate and goods were delivered to Wollongong Harbour for transport to Sydney.
