NameKyawanaTypeBuildingFarmDescription'Kyawana' is a weatherboard house with corrugated iron roof, built from remains of the nearby Croom School (1884-1920s).
Croom School opened in 1884 on the highest hill in Stoney Range - on the then main route between Albion Park and Kiama via 'Locking Hill'.
When the school with adjoining teacher's residence closed in the 1920's the above ground weatherboard section of the school was moved by William Charles and Charles Rene Dunster to the 'Kyawana' farm site where it was turned into a farmhouse.
Stone foundations of the school, four large fig trees and perennial garden remain on the school site today.
Leo O'Dwyer occupied the house in the 1950s. The O'Dwyer family were prominent members of the Dunmore community for generations. Leo's nephew John O'Dwyer served as Mayor and Alderman of Shellharbour Council in the 1970s.
