The family settled in the Illawarra.

Humphrey’s brother, Joseph Dunster, settled at ‘The Hill’ Shellharbour in the 1840’s, and the Dunster name has been synonymous with dairy farming in the area ever since.

Humphrey married Mary Ann King at Kiama in 1871. They had;

The first Council Chamber was built of local basalt in Addison Street Shellharbour, in 1865.The first meeting in the new building was held in February 1866, and Humphrey Dunster presided as mayor.

While living in Shellharbour, Humphrey was a great supporter of the Kiama Hospital, Dr Barnardo’s Homes and was instrumental in the establishment of All Saints Church of England at Albion Park, and St Paul’s Church of England at Shellharbour.

Humphrey married Mary Ann lived in Shellharbour until the 1890’s when they purchased a fine grazing property in 1891 ‘Hambleton Hall’ at Singleton, and the family moved north.
