They arrived in Australia about 1869, and settled at Kiama.
In 1869, at Paddington, Harman John Tarrant married Frances Jane Hargreaves, daughter of Edward Hammond Hargreaves, who set off the first Australian gold rush.
Harman and Frances had six children, all born at Kiama;

Harman William Miller b.1874 (married Lilian Agnes White, died 1938, Manly)
Richard Charles b.1876 (married Elsie Maud Lampard, died 1956, Hornsby)
Frances Emma b.1878 (married Robert Broadhurst Hill, died 1914, Goulburn)
Sydney Herbert b.1879 (died 1880, Hyde Park, Sydney)
Effie Mary b.1881 (married William Service, died 1925, Manly)
Dr Harman John Tarrant stayed in Kiama for about 10 years, where he ran his medical practice, before relocating to Sydney. He was eventually appointed chief surgeon at Sydney Hospital, and was also a member of the Legislative Council.
Harman died on pneumonia at Sydney in 1900.
William O’Callaghan Tarrant married Anna Elizabeth Charles at Wollongong in 1879. Just one year later, in 1880, William was tragically killed in 1880, the result of a buggy accident.
