Name
McCoy
Description
James McCoy was born in St John, New Brunswick, America and was and worked as an apprentice blacksmith in Boston.
James worked as a seaman for about nine years, before coming to Shellharbour about 1853.
James married Mary Mehaffey at Brownsville in 1864. The couple had five children, two died in infancy;

Sarah Jane b.1870 (died 1901, Shellharbour)
Robert b.1872 (died 1873, Shellharbour)
David b.1873 (died 1875, Shellharbour)
James was involved with the Methodist Church and a strong follower of the temperance movement. He worked as a blacksmith at Shellharbour.
Mary McCoy died in 1899, and James in 1916. They are buried at Shellharbour General Cemetery.
