NameMartin (Aaron Branch)DescriptionAaron Martin was born 1811 Bristol, Somerset, England. In 1832 he was found guilty of house stealing and transported to Australia aboard ‘Parmelia’.
He gained his Certificate of Freedom in 1841.
Three years later he married Bridget Gavin (daughter of John and Mary Galvin, County Galway, Ireland) at Campbelltown.
Aaron and Bridget had several children;
John Thomas b.1841, Picton, died 1936, Sydney.
Robert Rowland b.1844, Campbelltown, married Sarah Ellen Burrell, died 1912, Balmain.
Mary Ann b.1849, married Patrick Gavin, died 1939, Balgownie.
Nicholas Aaron b.1851, Campbelltown, married died 1932, Shellharbour
James b.1854
Harriett b.1855 Jamberoo, married Charles Johnson, died 1924, Sydney.
Joseph b.1858 Shellharbour, married Mary Kimbrey, died 1924, Kiama.
Elizabeth b.1862 Shellharbour, married Charles Bottcher, died 1959, Strathfield.
Aaron died 1881 and was buried at the Old Sand Cemetery at Shellharbour. Bridget in 1909.
Nicholas Aaron Martin b.1851 lived at Native Dog Hill (Mt Warrigal), somewhere on the north east side. He married Catherine Ann, daughter of Michael and Ann Toohey in 1870 , and they had 16 children;

After his wife Catherine’s death in 1899, Nicholas married Lilian Bonser in 1903.

Nicholas, Lilian and family lived at Martin's Corner (Addison and Mary Street, Shellharbour).
The family home was originally the Peterborough Store, and later became the first Shellharbour Workers Club.
Nicholas died in 1932 aged 82.
After Nicholas' death, Lilian worked as a housekeeper for some years. She died in 1954.
Maurice Augustus’ son Arthur Martin, recounted that according to his father, when the Martin children turned 12 years old, they had to leave the family home and get a job. Maurice had no work at 12, and camped around Lake Illawarra at the time. He eventually got a job with the railways, worked hard to educate himself, and in later years worked at Thirroul Station. The family lived in Seaview Terrace. Maurice then worked at Hurstville Station for many years.
