NameShellharbour Probus ClubDescriptionThe Shellharbour Probus Club was established on the 8 December 1986, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Shellharbour.
On 11 December 2006 the Probus Club held their 20th Anniversary Celebration at Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club, and produced an Anniversary booklet as record of their progress, awards and events over the 20 years.
The 20th Anniversary Celebration Souvenir booklet was compiled and produced by Robert Wallyn-Bulletin Editor and Ron McIntyre-Historian.
John Land, the foundation president played a major role in the promotion of the Club.
Norm Rowlands, a foundation member contributed greatly to the Club and 1985 received an Australia Day Citizens Award in 1993, the NSW Premiers Award for outstanding service to the community, and in 1996 an Order of Australia Medal.
Sid Uren, foundation secretary was heavily involved in the administration of the Club.
At their Annual General Meeting held 8 April 1991, a decision was taken to become a mixed Probus Club.
At a meeting held 3 June 1991 three ladies joined, Lil Ford, Val Gleeson and Jean Hogan. Jean, a current member retains the honour as the longest serving lady member.
A number of the Club members have been awarded for their community service over the 20 years.
