Despite the very rough seas, soldiers from the 6th Aust M.G. BN AIF rescued the entire crew of 62 Americans, with the tragic loss of four Australian soldiers. The tanker was a total loss and was sold for salvage. Ownership passed to several companies including Port Kembla Steel Works. The salvage operations took about 10 years to complete.LocationBass Point
