James and opened for divine service on Sunday 13th March 1859 by Rev. P. J. Smith. By the early 1880s the stonework had crumbled away so badly that a new church had to be built. The foundation stone was laid for the new building on January 26th, 1884 by Miss Annie Reddall. The builder was John Simmons of Kiama.
