NameIllawarra Christian School (Tongarra Campus)TypeBuildingSchoolGeolocation[1] DescriptionIllawarra Christian School – Tongarra Campus is situated in Calderwood Road Albion Park on land which was part of David Johnston’s 600 acres granted from Governor Macquarie in 1821.
The Illawarra Christian School began in 1989 in Albion Park as Tongarra Christian School at the Anglican Church Hall situated in the grounds of All Saint’s Church of England, Tongarra Road.
The Parish Hall was built in 1923 on land donated by John Bartlett and was dedicated by Rev. J.D. Knox Rural Dean. The building was of timber with a brick foundation costing £280.00 ($560.00) and was used for youth work.
The school began with nine students from Kindergarten to Year 4 with one teacher Trish Marmont.
The school amalgamated with Illawarra Christian School in 1993, and the school moved to the old shearing shed on Calderwood Road.
By 1996, rooms were partitioned off to accommodate up to Year 8 students. Over the next four years various building programmes occurred and the first HSC class graduated from the school in 2000.
