The school opened in 1976 for Years K-5 and was officially opened on Friday 1st April 1977 by Sir Roden Cutler V.C., K.C.M.G., K.C.V.O., C.B.E. Governor of New South Wales.
The official visitors at the opening were Mr B. Gillett, Regional Director of Education, Ald. A. Beaton, Mayor of Shellharbour, Mr W.G. Peterson, Member for Illawarra.
The Keira Boys’ High School Orchestra played the Slow March from ‘Scipio’ as the official party entered the hall, followed by ‘God Save The Queen’ by Barrack Heights Public School Choir, and at the unveiling of the plaque by Sir Roden Cutler as the choir sang ‘Morning Has Broken’. A Prayer of Dedication was given by Rev. M.T.D. Williams, Church of England Rector for Shellharbour. The proceedings closed by Keira Boys’ High School playing “Advance Australia Fair”.
