The first red sandstone building was built by W. James and opened for divine service on Sunday 13th March 1859 by Rev. P. J. Smith. By the early 1880s the stonework had crumbled away so badly that a new church had to be built. The foundation stone was laid for the new building on January 26th, 1884 by Miss Annie Reddall.
