The original steering committee for Shellharbour U3A included Jim Chapman, Ray Gall, Dirk and Fini Meyer, John and Glenys Elbourn, Johanna Schmidt, Zoe Smith, John Currie, the late Ken Woollett, Narelle Williams, Peter Burke, Kiama and Wollongong U3A.
The first meeting of the newly formed U3A was held at the Oak Flats Neighbourhood Centre on 22 July 2003. About 120 people attended.
A committee of ten was elected at this meeting with Joe Paulucci as President, Glenys Elbourn as Vice-President and Ken Tuckey as Secretary.
Courses in a number of subjects commenced soon after.
With the increase in the membership and number of courses on offer, bigger premises were sought for First Term 2004. A number of venues were investigated by President Joe Paulucci and the committee.
The U3A shifted its base of operations to The Lutheran Church at Old Lake Entrance Road Oak Flats. With the support and help of Pastor John Strelan and the Church Elders, Shellharbour City U3A moved to new quarters in January 2004.
