Edward was charged with manslaughter, convicted and transported to Australia 'for the term of his natural life'. He arrived in Sydney in 1836, received a Ticket of Leave in 1845 and a Conditional Pardon in 1850. He married Maria Campbell in 1847 at Jamberoo. They obtained a leasehold on land known as Killalea, part of the Bassett/Darley Estate.
