TitleJames & Isabella McGill with babyPhoto Number000546Date1870-1880DescriptionJames McGill was born in Scotland in 1822. He arrived in Australia with his parents, Andrew and Jean, in 1838. The McGills cleared land and established a farm on the south side of the Macquarie River. He married Isabella Russell at her home 'Croome' in 1869. They had five children and lived at 'The Meadows' on the Macquarie River. In 1883 they moved to Stoney Creek, mid-way between Albion Park and Shellharbour. James was on the committee of the Illawarra Agricultural & Horticultural Association, the Kiama Pasture & Stock Protection Board as well as involved with the formation of Dapto and Albion Park Shows.
